A site is the top level container for an application.

Under each site you can have an unlimited number of site versions, only one of which is active. Use site versions to test and stage updates.

When you create a site you specify a subdomain e.g. mysite. When accessing a url such as the request is mapped to the site and the active site version. The end point matching /a/url is executed, serving a page template, and/or running custom javascript code.
